My 9 year old Granddaughter's request for an evening of ice cream, a movie and a sleepover. Nothing could be better and her request was for Nanny McPhee. How could I say no. She watched it three times that weekend. Gotta love it.

We enjoyed it. My 10 year old granddaughter, and husband never saw it, so I bought this and they thoroughly enjoyed the story and acting. It was cute, fun and heartwarming.

I enjoy and recommend this movie. The story is about a widower with a large brood of children who are hard to manage. His children have gone through all of the nannies the agency has sent. They are in their own way grieving the loss of their beloved mother and the changes in the house. A rich aunt who has helped the family financially wants the father to remarry by the end of the month. Otherwise she will not give anymore financial help. By fate, the father summons Nanny McPhee. As the story unfolds, Nanny McPhee teaches the children the important lessons in life. This movie is enjoyable and easy to watch. It shows the mischievous children at work in creating pandemonium to understanding their fathers dilemma and then coming together to support each other as family. I know this movie did not get rated highly in the theatres and was also compared to Mary Poppins. I do not agree with either review. This movie is not like Mary Poppins - other than that both women were employed as nannies. Two different story lines and outcomes. Very good for children and adults to watch, enjoy and learn/remind the most important lessons in life.Read full review
EVERYTHING about this movie is a delight! The music score perfectly colors the actions on the screen, and defines the characters in the scenes. I was very impressed, in the special features, at how they built the entire little village in a large field, where Mr. Brown lived and worked. AMAZING! Emma Thompson, at the end of the film, to me, was more beautiful than the scullery-maid-turned-bride. Have always enjoyed the work of Celie Imrie and Imelda Staunton. And of course, Sir Derek Jacobi. AND...!!! I ADORE Colin Firth, in anything he's in, and even though Father Time has caught up with him, (he's 48 years old, Sept. 9th), he remains a most handsome and very sexy actor...and VERY talented and versatile! The children in this movie are little pros, and you cannot help but just fall in love with every one of them! This is a movie to enjoy anytime you need a good laugh, or a happy ending!!
