It also offers up to 130GB/s from the host. The wd5000avds is a Caviar Green drive. Like others of this type, it's designed to operate very efficiently. IntelliPower software on the SATA hard drive offers effective power management. It balances spin speed, cache rate, and various algorithms for optimal operation. Intelliseek software also keeps the disk arm in motion without using the motor. It helps cut power by up to three times as much as a traditional hard disk. It also shuts down the platters and parks the heads after eight seconds of non-use. This feature helps to significantly cut down on power consumption. As one of the Green WDs, it is also very quiet with minimal vibration. SilkStream is another software add-on to the Western Digital. With it, you enjoy smooth video playback on up to 12 HD streams. Preemptive power leveling allows for a longer HDD life. NoTouch Technology also keeps the heads from touching the platters to ensure less wear and tear on the drive. This technology makes the 500GB WD a perfect choice for use in surveillance systems. You certainly don't want any lag or a jumpy video feed when it comes to security.The manufacturer usually packages this WD alone in plastic, but it uses standard SATA I or SATA II connection cables. It measures 4 inches wide by 5.8 inches long by 1 inch deep and is meant to be installed on an internal hard drive. The interface type depends on what year the drives were released. You can install this 500GB internal hard drive on your desktop personal computer. The 3.5-inch form factor should fit neatly into the device bay on most models.
