A wonderful last gift from Vladimir Horowitz
Do you love great piano music? If you do, I recommend "Horowitz The Last Recording." Play it from the CD or FLAC files (not compressed MP3s) and sit in front of your speakers or put your best headphones on and be swept away by the magic of Horowitz's masterful performance. Beginning on October 20, 1989, these pieces were recorded in Horowitz's living home over just 13 days. Just four days after the last session Horowitz passed away from a heart attack on Sunday afternoon while sitting in a chair, making plans with his wife, Wanda, for the evening's dinner. What he left for us was a uniquely special gift of perhaps his best music. These are all pieces that he had never recorded before. If you search for more information you can learn how they placed foam around the room to prevent echos and how the recording engineer had to sit in the basement during the sessions. You can find the used CD on ebay for $4 or $5 dollars shipped.

What can I say that hasn't already been said and said well by previous reviewers? Not much, I'm sure, so I'll keep this short and sweet - especially sweet! Horowitz was one of the greatest pianists whom it was my pleasure to hear over my 80-year (so far) lifespan! He always played with almost unbelievable emotion. It just poured out of his piano! And, instead of dropping off as he got older, like most of us do (including myself), he improved, if it's even possible! This is his last recording, unfortunately, as advertised. This recording was produced in 1990 when Vladimir was only 87-years-old! Can you even believe such a thing? I have trouble even crossing the street these days!
