I am rebuilding an old lathe by hand as I do not yet have a mill.The s/s backing plate flexes a lot. Which means the honed surface is not flat. Other brands I have bought have the same issue. I will have to grind some s/s plate flat and epoxy it to the back on top of another precision flat surface with heavy wieghts on it.
