About this product

Product Information

Essential Cell Biology , Second Edition contains basic, core knowledge about how cells work. It has a proven track record in providing students with a conceptual and accessible grounding in cell biology. The text and figures have been prepared to be easy-to-follow, accurate, clear and engaging for the introductory student. Each section follows logically from the previous one, telling a story, rather than being a collection of facts. Questions integrated throughout each chapter encourage the reader to pause, think about what they have read, and attempt to apply the new knowledge in ways that test their understanding. Based on user feedback, the Second Edition now offers increased coverage of genetics and more experimental background. It is completely up-to-date.

  • Essential Cell Biology

The authors of Essential Cell Biology did an excellent job with this 2nd Edition Book. It is very concise and thorough in it's explanations of cellular processes. The book has excellent diagrams that follow along with the reading so it makes it very easy to conceptualize what is going on. At the end of each chapter there are questions which test you on what you learned throughout a particular section, which were pretty helpful for identifying where my strengths and weaknesses were. The only thing that I didn't like about the book is that during the reading it would refer you to a diagram and most of the time it wouldn't be on the same page so I found myself flipping back and forth between pages to follow a particular diagram that corresponded to the reading.

  • good text on cell biology

Very thorough information about the cell, its contents and functions -- lots of information, but not a quick read

  • Great!

Essential Cell Biology so far has been one science textbook that I can actually get through and feel like I understood. I know what were main points, and somehow I'm able to retain all the processes and details that I read about. The formatting is a little weird, but nothing you can't adjust to. I also think some of the paintings of scientific subjects is a little odd.

  • Very good

From what I have seen so far and from what I have checked for, this is very similar to the 3rd edition. If you need a 3rd edition, get this, its so much cheaper and will work no problem. I am currently using it in place of a 3rd edition, I haven't been in the class long, but I compared the two books, they are very similar.

  • Great cell biology book

This book is great since it has many colorful illustrations and very well written text. It also asks conceptual questions on the margins based on the materials you read, thus helping you in future standarized exams like the MCAT.
