Cave needs to bring over more Japanese Shmups to the states as official US releases, like Deathsmiles for Xbox 360. Pros: Classic shooter mechanics with wacky visuals. Some unique and creative shot patterns and bullet hell. Each character doesn't just look different, their shots, speed, and familiar companion make playing them a unique experience. Cons: Way too short, even with optional bonus levels and differences between the different modes.. it still feels like not enough. Would have really loved to see the "360" versions of the arcade port be full widescreen. Wish there were more difficulty levels between 3. and 999...
I was so psyched to get this game that i bought it and i don't even own an XBOX 360. i'm an avid gamer of this shooter genre and i'm going to say that i'm a little disappointed in this game. i beat this game twice in an hour and a half. you get unlimited continues, which in my opinion sucks, so you can beat the game no problem. yes understandably there are high score leaderboards on this internet thing we use but i'm not in it for that. playability of a game is more important to me than a high score. games like Gradius V and Ikaruga are rad games. hell even 1943 for NES is more challenging than this game. i do like the theme of the game which is Halloweenie. there are 5-6 different modes of play you can choose from. 5 characters. no upgrades (that i've noticed anyway) borrow this game before you buy it.Read full review

Nothing too spectacular, but it isn't bad if you're interested in this sort of game. The artwork on the box and the faceplate is gorgeous, graphics remind me of old games I played as a child.
Thank you very much

i bought because its exactly what i wanted and i like the product very much plus makes my xbox look very cool i also watch the cartoon all the time so thankyou very much
My first impressions of Deathsmiles is that this is a very beautiful game with lovely artwork and graphics, both on the characters and in the gameplay. I jumped straight into it with no practise and I found this game to be really easy to pick up, even though this is the first 2D shooter that I have played, this will help newcomers to the genre and style to adapt before they try harder difficulties ar harder games. I was slightly disappointed at the length of the game as after only a small bit of practice I can find myself getting through the whole game in about eight to ten minutes on the easiest difficulty. That said, increasing the difficulty only makes it harder to complete the game without any continues/deaths and does not add a lot to the time, maybe one or two minutes per step-up in difficulty, and as there are only three difficulty setting in the normal version, it does not add up to much (the Mega Black Label adds a much more difficult Level 999 setting) Although the game is short it does have a very high replay value, helped not only by the easy to understand and appealing gameplay, but by the fact that in total there are ten different possible endings, with each of the four characters having two possible endings added with the two possible outcomes for the bonus character in the Mega Black Label version. The leaderboard feature and the option to filter "friends only" makes this game also very competetive over live and the fact that a second player can join the game on the same console with a "jump-in" feature, rather than having to go back to main menu, also makes Deathsmiles an easy game to play two player. + Appealing artwork. + Easy to pick up. + Multitude of endings. + Friends' leaderboard feature. - Length of play-through. All in all I think that this is the perfect game for anyone wanting to get into the genre as it is easy to pick up and play but players who are experienced in this type of game will want a more lengthy storyline.Read full review
