This is an excellent basic explanation of many complicated economic concepts. Written in a "letter to a student" style, you will come away with a good grasp of basic economic theory. It is NOT a book which dives into great detail for every economic formula etc., so if that is what you are looking for, this is not your book. If you've always wanted to know what supply and demand was, how inflation affects us etc., this is a good book to read.

Sitting and reading it on his own time, discussing what he'd just read, etc. It is economics at its bare bones, sometimes over simplified, but still providing a sense of the study of economics. This is by no means a text book on economics, just a good introduction to the various parts of an economy and how they work together.
