One of the keys on my trusty old fx-260 had become erratic (it's over 20 years old, so I can't complain) and I decided to upgrade to the state-of-the-art fx-991ex. Unfortunately, I don't like it. First, my minor gripes: (1) It's too big; I love the pocketable size of the fx-260; (2) the keys feel like chiclets and make a rattling sound when pressed; (3) the mottled surface texture makes the alternate key labels hard to read, especially the blue ones - practically impossible except in very bright light - what were they thinking? (4) The slide-on cover is too loose-fitting, slips off by itself. But more importantly, (5) I find that I don't like its main attraction, the V.P.A.M. entry method. The display is pretty and I like how the entered formula remains on display together with the answer - but it's cumbersome: expressions used in everyday math and science require more clicks than with the "immediate entry" method. And the whole menu system - who uses a calculator for spreadsheets or matrix calculations? Come on. -- The fx-991ex is a very cool calculator and I'm keeping it to show off to family and friends, but I got myself a replacement fx-260 for everyday use. (Secretely, I want a SwissMicro dm42, but they're just too expensive.)Read full review

Tweaked version of its predecessor, the fx-991ES Plus, and worth it just on looks alone! Appearance is almost a work of art and with its attractive, main menu icons, looks stunning. It is, however, highly functional as well and possesses amazing features for the money, including two unique ones: a polynomial inequality solver and a ratio solver. Don't get too carried away though! This is not a true graphical calculator, it isn't programmable, can't be connected to a computer, and, unlike the fx-9860GII, you can't add a range of apps. Also, they've improved the statistical functions but these are no match for what the fx-9750GII or fx-9860GII offer. Also, don't expect the same build quality, either! A great little calculator though and well worth the low price on eBay.

I bought this calculator because it has variable memories, which means you can save values for letters A, B, C, D, E, and F into the calculator to use later on. I was having trouble memorizing a certain constant, so I saved it in my calculator. It also comes with lots of constants pre-programmed. I also love that i can go back and edit formulas after i get an answer. Also, the QR code generator is fun!

This is Casios best scientific (non graphing) calculator and is faster than competing devices from Sharp and Ti. It really hasn’t changed in several years now as this segment of about fully mature.

So much better than the Casio fx 260 I've had for years. I love this calculator for the price.
