Synopsis
An astonishing novel about redemption and forgiveness from the "amazingly talented writer" ( HuffPost ) and #1 New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult. Some stories live forever... Sage Singer is a baker. She works through the night, preparing the day's breads and pastries, trying to escape a reality of loneliness, bad memories, and the shadow of her mother's death. When Josef Weber, an elderly man in Sage's grief support group, begins stopping by the bakery, they strike up an unlikely friendship. Despite their differences, they see in each other the hidden scars that others can't. Everything changes on the day that Josef confesses a long-buried and shameful secret and asks Sage for an extraordinary favor. If she says yes, she faces not only moral repercussions, but potentially legal ones as well. With the integrity of the closest friend she's ever had clouded, Sage begins to question the assumptions and expectations she's made about her life and her family. In this searingly honest novel, Jodi Picoult gracefully explores the lengths to which we will go in order to keep the past from dictating the future., An astonishing novel about redemption and forgiveness from the "amazingly talented writer" ( HuffPost ) and #1 New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult. A Great Read

Great book. Author did a lot of research to write this fictional account about characters entwined in the holocaust from past to present ... Reading it breaks your heart to think that such evil could be committed against fellow peoples and whether forgiveness could be granted to those who committed such atrocities.

  • This would've happened to Anne Frank when found.

If you were looking for 'Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm' or 'Nancy Drew,' you came to the wrong place. Although Picoult is an excellent writer, the subject matter is depressing, a family's experiences in concentration camps during Nazi regime. We know these things happened, but if you choose to read the "deets," you will find them here.

  • Excellent!

I bought this book to read because Ron DeSantis has banned the book. I wanted to see why. How sad that students will not be able to read this book without easy access. I would say juniors and seniors in high school could certainly read this book. If parents have doubts, then you read it before your children. But the facts and information in this book is knowledge everyone should be aware of that happened during the Holocaust. And if you don't believe the Holocaust happened, then you are living a life of denial and need to research for yourself how this tragedy unfolded. Parents say they don't want their children to read about the atrocities that took place. This history is what teaches children how to have sympathy for those oppressed for simply being different and acceptance of ...
