About this product
Product Information
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja is part of a popular Japanese game series called Ganbare Goemon, which takes its name from its titular character. Developed by Konami in 1991 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and Game Boy Advance, The Legend of the Mystical Ninja is the first in the series to be released outside of Japan. Featuring a light-hearted combination of action, adventure, and side-scrolling platforming through a variety of levels, the game is sure to bring hours of entertainment and fun.The main character is Goemon, who was inspired by Ishikawa Goemon, a real-life Japanese folk hero and outlaw similar to Robin Hood. The story is simple but fun. The game is centered on the adventures of Goemon and his friend Ebisumaru as they decide to investigate some strange occurrences in their village. They confront the mysterious Ghost Woman at the temple, who turns out to be a ninja cat. The cat informs the duo that she was on the lookout for powerful warriors and sets the pair on a quest to rescue her boss, Koban. When they find Koban, he tells them that the Princess Yuki has been kidnapped and sends them on a perilous quest to save the princess. Their adventures lead them to several villages and levels where they face challenges in the search to find her. The game is rated E for Everyone, and the gameplay falls into two distinct categories. First, the characters wander through villages, attacking bad guys to earn money and other bonuses that help the players out. But gamers have to be careful because accidentally attacking townsfolk causes them to lose money. Money can also be earned in the villages by participating in a variety of mini-games, such as mazes, dice, and whack-a-mole. There are also shops where power-ups, healing items, and new gear can be purchased. The second part of the game consists of 10 side-scrolling platform levels that follow the standard villages. In addition to an array of bad guys, the levels are filled with obstacles and traps that hinder the characters’ progress. Two players can work together by piggy-backing through the platforming elements. Also, if the gamers collect the scrolls from the judo training in the villages, they receive access to powerful special attacks that deal out awesome damage. The Kobun Tiger attack from the first level sees your character riding a mystical tiger and ramming into enemies. Other judo attacks include throwing lightning bolts and whipping around your super-strong hair. At the end of each of the platforming levels is a boss who needs to be defeated. The Legend of the Mystical Ninja is a light-hearted game that serves as a welcome change of pace from more serious plots. Fans of the classic game consoles like SNES are likely to be thrilled to have The Legend of the Mystical Ninja in their collection. Now you can enjoy the first overseas release in the popular Goemon series. Play by yourself or team up with a friend as Ebisumaru to take on the forces of almost-evil and rescue the beautiful Yukihime.
