Also noteworthy are the haunting lyrics of "The Blood" and "Kyoto Song," which Smith sings in his trademark high-pitched howl. With THE HEAD ON THE DOOR Robert Smith and the boys achieve a distinctively Cure-like pop sensibility.

  • The most eclectic Cure album of the 80s

If you like the Cure you will love this record. It is an absolute text book case of the sweep and magnitude of their material. From the pure pop of Close to Me alongside other great singles such as the romantic A Night Like This and quirky Screw to the lush synthesizer soundscaping of Sinking, this is an overview of the band in their mid 80s hey day. If you don't like the Cure, this collection of Robert Smith's twisted psyche probably won't help shift your opinion. However this is not like the first 3 distinctly arty Cure albums - 17 seconds, Faith and Pornography. With the Head on the Door Smith made it clear that the band were heading for commercial success and stadium appeal - something they have done successfully ever since. A clever piece of pop in it's own right and certainly a heady dose of 80s nostalgia. Highly recommended.
