    Good digital recorder for a beginners Home Recording Studio.

    I like it is 2 mic. for stereo recording right from the unit. I had a ICD-PX880 that was 1 mic. unit. Sound quality is good for what this costs. It is designed for voice... BUT can record music (live too) very well. Good software is on board in the unit. Make CDs or use as a MP3 player. Can add memory w/ a micro sims card.

    A Sony win

    Harks back to the days when Sony MEANT quality... well-designed, versatile recorder with enough features it COULD have been a bear to figure out (like some cameras!) but quite user-friendly (you will want to read at least part of Sonly's online help manual.) This is the higher-end model that allows direct file transfer to computer, should you need it. It will power an external mic if needed, add track marks, divide files, playback at slower/faster speeds... advanced features but still quite straightforward to use. Good battery life. Probably will last as long as its carbon-wafer buttons, the weak link of most modern electronics.

    I WRITE HAIKUS, SO WHEN I THINK UP SOMETHING WORTH WRITING, I HAVE A WAY TO GET IT DOWN BEFORE I FORGET IT...PERFECT WHEN ON THE ROAD, OR AT HOME ETC. EASY PLAY BACK...THE PX440 HAS THE USB TO CONNECT DIRECTLY TO HOME COMPUTER IF NEEDED. OVERALL A GREAT UNIT, NOT A LOT OF MONEY TO BUY. SONY THE ONE AND ONY FOR SURE!!!

    Awesome little recorder

    I use this for recording ambient natural sounds and use an external shotgun mic in conjunction. It's a great combination and very portable, and I get excellent sound quality.
