Well worth the price and user friendly!

I love my Home Patrol 1 and just purchased version 2. While I haven't heard any phase 2 traffic as of yet, there is plenty to listen to. These are the easiest scanners to program and I've been into scanning for over 15 years. One of the many things I like about this radio is that it shows me what I'm hearing and I can get more info on the transmission and/or frequency by simply touching an arrow on the screen. The touchscreen itself is great and very simple to navigate. I love taking it with me on road trips or visiting cities because all I have to do is punch in where I'm at and I'm off. If your just getting started or just looking for a scanner that doesn't require an engineering degree, get a Home Patrol.

    Very poor job by Uniden

I really wanted to like the HP2, the feature set had some great ideas, but the unit itself was glitchy and slow, during the brief random intervals when it worked. Most of the time it would lock up and refuse to scan (blank screen, blinking green light), dispite replacing the batteries and SD card. Bottom line: A police scanner is a safety device, and you shouldn't have to hope it's going to work when you hit the power button.

  • Uniden Home Patrol II

I have wanted a Home Patrol II for a long time and finally treated myself to one. When I opened the box, I immediately plugged it in and powered it up. Since I had just got off work & was in my recliner, I ignored the request to upload the Sentinel software for now. Extremely easy setup! Type in the zipcode and voila! 154 channels right away. I purchased it used but it looks & works like new! The seller sent lots of extras: Mobile Antenna, GPS Antenna, 12V Car Power Plug for the Scanner & GPS. The audio output is crisp and clear. The display is easy to read but can be adjusted for contrast, brightness, and font size. I've owned and programmed several Trunk Tracker scanners. Each one has lengthy programming steps that are quite tedious, especially if you don't have the programming software or cable. Manually entering control frequencies and individual digital Id's for every department and entity can take several (boring) hours. The Home Patrol II alleviates this burden (though it can be programmed manually...if that's a preference). All in all, I'm giving this 5 Stars and an A+ rating!

  • Great easy to use scanner.

The HP 1 and HP 2 are great scanners, I have owned the HP 1 for many years and really like the flexability and ease of use. I picked up the HP2 to listen to p25 phase 2 systems the HP 1 will not work on P25 phase 2 just phase 1. Very happy with HP2 also.

  • Easy to setup and use.

Very easy to set up. Just enter your zip code and it will search for nearby services. It has a small footprint so it takes up little space. I bought an AC adapter so I can keep it plugged in to the wall for fulltime use.

  • Reconditioned Uniden scanner

Been looking to purchase this scanner for years but the price was too high, this was reasonable and it's working great. I use it daily and everything is working just fine. To monitor trunked systems you must have a unit like this, the older scanners will not pick up trunked systems like most police and fire are using today, this unit can monitor anything in the USA.

  • pricey, easy to program, get everything, sound good and work good!

my old analog scanner was only getting 2 frequencies for the last few years, and i was missing alot of stuff locally, so i upgraded. someone i know had a home patrol and was getting everything, so i went to ebay to get one. the $500.00 price scared me off, so i bought a whistler ws1065 desk top/mobile scanner for $267.00, then had to buy and download a program for it and update my drivers only to find out i still couldnt program it. so 11 months later i bit the bullet and bought an open box HP2 $430.00 downloaded a FREE sentinel program and was up and running! then 3days later i bought another open box one $395.00 for my garage, and its up and running now. as far as a good value? they were both considerably more expensive than the analog style, but they get everything you can legally. are they of good quality? they seem fine, they sound good, they work good, time will tell. but all in all i do like them, and do recommend them!

  • HP II Purchase.

Purchased a refurbed HP II. Fairly easy to program. Good sensitivity, no intermod problems. I returned it because I kept getting a "Battery Charge Error" message. Tried another set of known good batteries and two other USB chargers (5 Volt, 1.5 Amp), same error message appeared. Will get another one, hopefully this one will work as it should. rja1
