Bekannt wurde in dieser Zeit, wie sie sich uber Menschenrechte hinwegsetzten, ihre Arbeiter in Drittlandern ausbeuteten und Umweltkatastrophen verschuldeten. Dieses Bild befindet sich momentan in einem starken Wandel und geht einher mit dem Begriff der Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Ein Begriff, der gerade seit der Jahrtausendwende in der oeffentlichen Wahrnehmung Konjunktur hat und immer mehr Aufmerksamkeit findet. Im Rahmen von CSR-Aktivitaten engagieren sich Unternehmen in sozialen und gesellschaftlichen Themengebieten. Manche Unternehmen gehen sogar soweit ihre komplette Strategie einer nachhaltigen CSR anzupassen. Unternehmen handeln demnach nicht mehr als reine Gewinnmaschinen, bei denen Profit an oberster Stelle steht, sondern nehmen durch ihr Engagement auch bewusst politischen Einfluss auf die Gesellschaft.
