Additional InformationThe group's debut album is a thrilling blast of C-86-style sound and fury, doused in bitterness and melancholy.
Reviews"The band’s debut set the template for David Gedge’s unique, often abrasive take on indie-pop. It remains their definitive UK indie offering.", "...the sound of a young band struggling to find their feet, to find the right words, to get the noise right. Maybe that's why it sounded so fresh, so bullshit free and life-affirming in 1987 and...sounds so poignant and startlingly innocent now."
I won't be the first and I certainly won't be the last to rate this album as one of the all time classics. Dave Gedge & his The Wedding Present were fairly confident to name this album after one of football's all time greatest players, but he did and it followed it suit. If you don't own this slice of history, give it a spin, then go on to discover a catalogue that displays the genius of this album's name sake.
It might be late in coming, but congratulations Mr Gedge and co.
