The only time I had used Pearl glue was during my City and Guilds course. Working on restoring a Georgian writing slope I decided to purchase and use this instead of reaching for the bottle of white glue. I have been pleasantly surprised with how easy it has been to make up and use, although you do need to plan ahead a bit more.

I ordered the pearls not having used them before. I'd bought a hot glue pot and was Keen to try the old fashioned way of joining wood. I measured an amount of pearls in a small container, then added double the amount of water and left it overnight. In the morning I was greeted with a set gel, so I boiled a kettle and added a little cold water to the outer glue pot and placed the gel in the inner pot and combined the two. I stirred until all the glue was melted and put the pot on a little portable oil radiator to keep warm, adding a little water to the glue until it was like maple syrup. Using the glue is easy, it doesn't run far and allows some wiggle room, sets to a light bonding quite quickly and is fully cured come morning. I would definitely recommend. Oh and the smell hasn't been bad at all (so far). Read full review

It stinks, so you need to get used to that yourself and convince the domestic authority that this is the best glue for wood. Stick to your guns and this glue will stick anything you want. It holds quickly with no need for clamping, unless you are doing something very odd. It is very strong but if you splash a bit around you can easily clean with hot water. If you got it wrong you can clean off with hot air gun/hot water and redo as many times as you like. Throw away that PVA shite and go back to the future !

Reminds of my childhood days. This type of scotch glue was widely used. It worked well then, and it works well now. The only difference is, it is much more expensive now. On a vast number of applications it does a far better job than the PVA type of glues.
