James Hunter Believe What I Say CD
James Hunter is the greatest R&B singer since Sam Cooke. His style of music takes one back to the late 1950s and early 1960s. This was a reissue of his first official James Hunter release. The CD originally came out in 1996 on Ace Records in England. He makes some exclamations that sound like James Brown. His guitar solos are very reminiscent of early Beatles songs. In fact, he does perform one song that the Beatles played at the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany. "Hallelujah I Love Her So". His bands use of tenor and baritone saxaphones are outstanding, and the listener would swear they are listening to the radio from 1962. That is something that cannot be said for most of the music from the 21st century. Van Morrison stumbled across James Hunter in 1989, and gave his career a boost and toured with him. The songs "Turn on Your Love Light" and Ain't Nothing You Can Do" are Van Morrison duets. Hunter also duets with the late Doris Troy on "Let Me Know" and "Hear Me Calling". Troy's presence brings one back to the great days of Motown. "Don't Step On It" is my favorite on the CD, and he performed it when I saw him in Boston at the Bank of America Pavillion on August 17, 2006. James Hunter is an excellent R&B musician. He is very entertaining to see live in concert. His music is very addictive, and I never get tired of listening to it. This CD is Awesome!
