I grew up with the name Linhof being synonimous with perfection and the Technika being the cream of the marque. The Linhof Super Technika lll is a beautifully crafted piece of equipment, it has a triple extension front bellows to allow for close focusing. A rise/fall and cross front to adjust perspective distortion. The viewing screen is a full fresnel screen so focusing is easy. It comes with a viewing hood for coveniece but this can be removed to facilitate the use of the traditional black cloth. The back rotates between landscape and portrait format and the international back accepts standard 5x4" cut film holders. It is also possible to fit roll film and Polaroid backs. Lenses are attached to the front standard by locating the lens board groove at the bottom and simply pushing the top of the board until it seats light tight with a very positive click. The Linhof Technika lll is available with or without a rangefinder, the Super in the title denotes that this model has the rangefinder attached, this works via a cam which in the case of the Technika lll needs to have been ground and calibrated to the specific lens. Later models have cams that are less specific but as the camera is usually used as a view camera (focused dirictly on the fresnel screen) it is not a significant drawback. The camera is opened by lowering the front which forms the bed on which to rack out the standard and bellows. The bed then can be dropped down further to allow the unhindered use of wide angle lenses and a four way movable rear bellows permits additional correction of distortion. That the Technika lll is limited in its front movements in having no forward or backward tilt is often cited as a negative, however I have never found this to be so. The front standard rack out smoothly, the focusing wheel is positive and the whole camera exudes quality. This camera is a joy to use and produces outstanding results.Read full review
Movements smooth and precise, no backlash, high-quality materials. The back rotation is magic- it rotates smoothly and clicks into position with a faint "snick". If you have used a Graflex, the controls will look very familiar. A little on the heavy side, but if you fret about the weight you're using the wrong format. The last 4x5 field camera I will ever need!

This is a great camera! Even if it's an old model there's still plenty of accessories on the market for it. It's for serious photographer who want to develop and print in their own darkroom.
