I was previously using a BBE Green Screamer, a discontinued clone of TS808, and I had no issue with it; but the pedal enclosure is bigger than a typical MXR size and I was running out of space on my board, so I decided to get the Maxon OD808. From what I've researched the Maxon is actually closer to the Ibanez TS10 spec-wise. I have no idea if the Maxon does sound like an Ibanez TS10, but I do know that compared to the BBE the Maxon is slightly warmer. Noise level is about the same: minimal. The BBE features true bypass, while the Maxon has a buffered bypass, but from what I can tell the buffered bypass does not seem to add brightness which I've noticed with other buffered bypass pedals. Overall, I'm satisfied and I would recommend the Maxon to others looking for a tube screamer without a boutique price tag.Read full review

The Maxon OD808 Overdrive pedal is a very good tool at a very good price. I bought this pedal in order to tighten up the front end of my Mesa Boogie Mark V, and it did just that. This pedal will not replace the overdrive/dirty channel of your amp. It's the type of pedal that you buy to help tighten up the front end of your amp's overdrive/dirty channel, and to help bring out the dynamics and tracking of your playing style. Given this is only the second "OD" pedal I've ever bought, I find that it does quite a good job at doing what it's supposed to. The bypass on it is transparent as well, which a good thing. I give this pedal a 4/5 because it's not magical, but it is consistant at keeping things nice and tight.
This OD in front of a hi gain amp s perfect, just the right amount of "push" for solos and makes pinch harmonics easier and just gives a creamier playing feel to my amps already great distortion channels. highly recommend this maxon od808.

This overdrive can be described as clean, has nice tone, and is great value for an over 100 dollar overdrive pedal. The sound has lots of mids and sounds controlled. I usually used a boss super overdrive and this one sounds quite similar. It just sounds cleaner. less hair in the midrange and top end. It's also less bright. This is good for pushing a distortion pedal or amp into high gain. The midrange has punch and sounds like it has nice quality going for it.

i have mesa boogie triaxis preamp with t.c. g-major attached, fifty/fifty poweramp and mesa boogie roadster 2x12 cabinet. I've tried several OD and distortion pedals and this has been my final choice. wanna transperant overdrive which doesnt change the guitar and amp character? this is the best one. I'm using it with all channels of triaxis (including lead channels for Metal sounds!)
