About this product

Product Information

A collection of essays that sets forth the moral principles of Objectivism, Ayn Rand's controversial, groundbreaking philosophy. Since their initial publication, Rand's fictional works-- Anthem , The Fountainhead , and Atlas Shrugged-- have had a major impact on the intellectual scene. The underlying theme of her famous novels is her philosophy, a new morality--the ethics of rational self-interest--that offers a robust challenge to altruist-collectivist thought. Known as Objectivism , her divisive philosophy holds human life--the life proper to a rational being--as the standard of moral values and regards altruism as incompatible with man's nature. In this series of essays, Rand asks why man needs morality in the first place, and arrives at an answer that redefines a new code of ethics based on the virtue of selfishness. In the years after 1957’s Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand departed from fiction to star as a lecturer and, with the publication of The Objectivist Newsletter, an important philosophical pamphleteer. Though the early 1960s, she was sought after by TV and radio talk shows, becoming almost a fixture on the Phil Donohue program while in its early stages in Dayton. She inaugurated a subscription lecture series that became a national phenomenon through the use of slide projectors accompanied by taped recordings of her and selected contributors (among those, a youthful Alan Greenspan). The Objectivist Newsletter, later renamed The Objectivist, became the vehicle for her continued writings. It was an eight-page folio featuring her essays together with contributions by Nathaniel and Barbara Brandon. The ...

  • Selfishness

This book makes a compelling argument about how you cannot take care of other people until you first take care of yourself.

  • An analect of essays on morality.

Book maintains that morals are rational. Belief without rational basis is immoral.
