  • Sullivan's Island

I've bought this book at least four times, as I lend it out and it does not return or I give it away. It's a great book because it shows that determination to succeed no matter what the odds will prevail. Even kids with a home life that has serious problems can be responsible adults. I know that is not a popular view in these days of pointing the finger everywhere else to cast blame. This book struck many chords with me. Some being that love and faith in God and each other do make a positive difference, and that there are miracles still abounding in this world. And one of the most important is that you do not have to be rich, famous or well educated to make a difference in this world. You need only to give from the heart, and stand up for what is right for yourself and for others. I ...

  • Sullivans Island - A Low Country Tale

This is Dorothea Benton Frank's first novel. She has gone on to write many novels - always about South Carolina's low country. This book goes through Susan Hayes (main character in book) present where she lives in Charleston, SC, all the way back to growing up on the beach at Sullivans Island. It depicts life on the Island that is funny, heartbreakingly sad, and even has a little ghostly quality. Ms. Frank does an excellent job of entertaining and portraying great Southern traditions through the characters in her book. A collector of Ms. Frank should definitely have this book in their collection

  • Nice tale about Low Country life.

I thoroughly enjoy Dorothea Benton Frank's writing style about the low country of SC. This was the first book in a series and I've already begun reading the next book, Plantation. Easy read.
