    Excellent read!

    William Manchester's memoir of his experiences during the Okinawa campaign is outstanding. It really defines why his generation was the "greatest generation." His overviews of the other Pacific island campaigns, while not comprehensive, provides the reader with excellent background information on the campaigns that led up to the final battle on Okinawa and demonstrate Japan's changes in tactics and strategy as the war turned against them.

    Goodbye Darkness by Wm. Manchester

    Excellent World War Two book. Highly recommend to any WW2 buff. Former Sgt. Manchester revisits his war battles throughout the Japanese held islands several years later.
