Arrived 3 days sooner than expected. New as described. Shipping cost made the item a dollar more than another seller, but their feedback percentage with the high amount of sales is the reason I purchased from them. Would rather have seen the price with free shipping to start with. Great honest seller though! A+++

  • Book lacking many other great groups, but good history

This book gives great information about vocal groups, just not enough of them. I also found that the discography falls way short compared to other reference books of group harmony. Some of the record release dates disagree with other books such a Kreiter's Guide and "The Complete Book of Doo-Wop" by Gribbin and Schiff. But then, who can say which one is right and which one is wrong? I decided to buy it based on reviews I read about it. Many were five stars. I rate it at three stars because it cold have contained more information.

  • In Depth

This is an excellent book that profiles literally hundreds and hundreds of vocal groups, some that I had forgotten about over the years. It goes into great detail concerning the hits, as well as the songs that never charted, yet I fondly remember. As a person that collects "Group Harmony" from the 50's and earlier 60's era this book is a must have. The great thing about the book is the fact that it spans 6 decades of vocal groups from the 40's to the 90's. Great reference tool for all of the great sounds that you had forgotten but bring back great memories that you relate to the particular groups and their sound. This book is a can't miss if you love pop music from the past! Its the type of book that you will refer to whenever somebody mentions the songs that you grew up with and they ...

  • American Singing Groups by Jay Warner

A nice fat 550+ page soft-cover volume containing history and singles discographies for 350+ groups. It covers artists from the 1940s-1990s, looking heaviest at the 50s & 60s. Warner discusses how the groups came to be, the progress of their singles and a bit about the competition vying for position on the charts. The few b&w photos sprinkled throughout do not affect the overall value. For an armchair musicologist like me it fills in the details missing from the record labels - I especially appreciate the month/year of release part! This is a history book and you'll reference it again and again. It instantly became an invaluable addition to my music reference library. For buyers of 45rpm vinyl on eBay, in record stores or at flea markets, it offers that extra knowledge to aid in your ...
