    Good processor for upgrading

    It is replacing a 600 Mhz Duron on a K7Tpro motherboard. This Athlon 1.2 Ghz is an economic way to upgrade this old PC.With also some more RAM,this PC is now able to run applications like Firefox, OpenOffice and Avast antivirus under W2K.

    from DURON 600 MHz to Athlon 1.2 GHz

    I have used the "CPU free benchmark 2" tool to eximate the performace improvement. We have to take in account the difference between two processor is about the dimension of the internal cache memory present in Athlon other than the double speed. The internal logical core of the two processor are the same. The result of the Athlon test benchmark is about 91 seconds aganist 192 seconds of the Duron one (less is better for this test). This is the (more or less) waited result. The same test I have used to verify the more recent CPU of my notebook. Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26GHz test result; 27,87 seconds. I have gotten a good improvement in my situation that i have veryfied in the normal use of my upgrated PC.
