Spoiled by lack of quality for a Sealey tool.

I was expecting a Sealey product to be better than this. I never had to use the chain link removal pins so I can't comment on them. But when trying to use the chain link riveting function I did not have any success. After getting the chain lined up on the sprocket and pushing the outer plate into position all I had to do was form the rivet head on the link pins. Unfortunately the rivet forming pin from the kit could not make any change to the shape of the link pins despite very careful application of force. Removing the tool, checking , and trying again was performed twice before giving up after the third attempt. After taking the tool apart I saw that the riveting pin had worn away flat, with a small central core point which was extruding up the hollow centre of the chain link pin. The ...

  • You get what you pay for....

The major let down was the quality of the pushing/riveting pins supplied i.e they are very soft/poor quality. After giving up on trying to rivet the chain, i reviewing the sealey instructional video - lo and behold you can actually see the rivet end splay tool start to deform when the sealey chap is riveting the link! - which is the same issue i had. I ending up buying the Oxford chain splitter/riveter - which is a much better quality tool. Avoid the hassle, and buy a good quality chain splitter - and not this piece of rubbish. I used to 'think' sealey was a good quality brand - not any more.

  • dont bother

bought this expecting to make splitting and re- riveting my new chain a doddle..how wrong i was !!!!!!! the pin to split the chain was the same size as the rivet so when i pushed the rivet out the pin then became well and truly jammed in the hole , resulting in grinding it off! just what i wanted to avoid. the next problem was the dies supplied to flare the new rivet didnt seem to fit at all , resulting in much cursing and frustration. eventually the rivet was flared to the required width but not before the die and pins were worn to render them useless if used again! saved taking to a garage yes ,but would not recommend .

  • Not good

The tool managed to get the pins out the chain easy enough after grinding off the head, but tool doesn't rivet the the pins on new links. The riveting pin just ends up totally deformed, it squashed/mushroomed into the same shape as the hole in pin. Cheap but not cheerful. Very poor quality.

  • Does not support its claims.

It is one of the more expensive options on the market but I found that the 2.2mm pin broke apart on use, but most frustrating was the anvils don’t support small (cam) chains very well so you end up slightly buckling the links when I using the riveting tool. I ended up using a centre punch to do the job. It is not worth the money and I should have got a refund, dissatisfying.
