Great additional / replacement headphone set, for existing users of the complete MDR-HW700DS (transmiiter + headphones) set
Bottom line: they are GREAT! A [couple] of words of warning, before I begin: 1. These headphones CANNOT be used "standalone": they are only a 2nd (or more - up to 4) pair of headphones for users of the COMPLETE set - MDR-HW700DS, half of which is the proprietary transmitter ("Digital Surround Processor") DP-HW700. 2. While the MDR-HW700DS complete set is available round the World, it appears that ONLY the JAPANESE version allows for more headphone units (up to 4, actually) to be added for simultaneous listening. If you own a set from any other part of the World, check first that the transmitter has a button marked "ID-Set", or you won't be able to use your additional headphone pair. With this out of the way: 1. Due to the set's unique technology, which places the transmitter ("Digital ... Bottom line: they are GREAT! A [couple] of words of warning, before I begin: 1. Due to the set's unique technology, which places the transmitter ("Digital Surround Processor") literally in the middle between the sound's source and the TV set, thus being able to intercept the actual sound included on the movie track, these headphones are able to reproduce DTS / Dolby surround sound up to 9.1 levels! A feast unknown to me to be achieved by any other headphone set so far. 2. Despite weighing just over 300g, the headphones do NOT feel heavy at all, allowing for continuous movie watching for many hours (personally I did 3 movies in a row without feeling uncomfortable in the least). This is mainly due to the great soft round-the-ear ear-cushions and to the perfectly adaptable headband. Also, the headband has a special (somewhat unusual) recess over the ears, to allow for 3D viewing glasses for those of us who enjoy 3D movies at home as well. 3. Sound is clean & pleasant. Gamers & Heavy Metal music lovers might find it on the soft side, but for movies (including the likes of X-Men and Fast & Furious, which have plenty of sound effects) it works great and you may find yourself turning the head to see where that chopper is coming from or look up so that that fast landing rock won't end its fall on your head ;) Classical music is also rendered with high definition, though the drums could have some more impact. 4. Finally, given the many standards this set supports and that the transmitter effectively also becomes the input source switch box, the headset has several buttons to control all of these options (on/ off, input, volume, sound processing protocol, ...). Sony did quite a good job of turning the multitude of controls into something easy and almost intuitive to manage and use (did I mention that putting the headset on your head turns the set on and transfers sound from the TV to the headset, while removing the headset will restore sound to the TV and turn the headset off?) Also, some Smart-TV sets (of the same make, but not only) can even control all the transmitter's functionality with the TV's remote! Incidentally: the transmitter CAN be connected between an AV Receiver and the TV (thus leaving the input switching functionality to the Receiver), should this be the User's inclination. 5. Not to be forgotten: as the set works over Wi-Fi (selectable: 2.4GHz/5GHz or the best of the two), quality of sound is not impacted by the user moving around and getting to the kitchen for a quick snack. To sum it all up: a great very usage-flexible quite unique pair of headphones, provided you add them to the correct initial set (or if you need them as a replacement set for the one your dog has enjoyed a bit too much biting the ear-cushions ...) Enjoy!

Needs some improvement.
I bought these to replace my Sony MDR-DS7500, which I like, but would continually slide off of my head, due to the design of the headband. These have a much better headband design and are comfortable, but I notice that the bass is not as good and there is a lot more static interference than my other ones. The others had some, too, but these are much more pronounced. I'm not sure if it's the unit, itself, or a problem with the model. I'm going to contact Sony and see what I can find out about it. 4/19/2018 Update on my unit. I'm still having intermittent periods of static, but there are long periods of no static at all. I took it to a Sony approved repair facility, but they couldn't find a problem. (Could have been one of those intervals when it was playing static free. They told ... They told me to leave it on the 5 rather than the 2.4 gHz mode, but this hasn't really changed anything for me. As far as the sound quality goes, maybe I've gotten used to it, but the base sounds much better to me now. In fact, I sometimes get tricked, momentarily by sounds such a door knock, or a telephone ring, thinking it's my door or phone. I also note that there is a slight delay in the audio, so that I hear a double sound. I have to lower the volume on my eternal speakers to get rid of it. I live alone, so that's not a problem, but if you are watching a program with someone else and can't turn down the sound, it could be annoying.

Great set of headphones
This is a great set of headphones. They are comfortable with excellent sound. Best of all, they work with Dolby Digital/DTS devices right out of the box. Far superior to Senneheisers in comfort and compatibility. I recommend without reservation.
