Reminiscent of the film FREQUENCY, DITTO follows high-school students So-eun (Kim Ha-neul) and In (Yoo Ji-tae) as they realize that they can never be together. So-eun, living in 1979 South Korea, begins making transmissions on a ham radio and contacts In, who unbeknownst to her lives in the year 2000. The two find that they attend the same high school, and still not aware of the time warp, strike up friendship and a romance. In addition to the timeless love story, this film is significant in its exploration of cultural identity and politics.

  • Rent or Buy? --Buy!

    Unfortunately, this is one of my movies which I totally forgot how I found it in the first place (although it can be a good thing). Once I saw this film, I fell in love with it. Sadly, I rarely watch other movies on my shelf (I'm sure I'm not the only one here), but this is definitely a "keeper" for me. Besides being slightly slow in some areas, for a time-love film it is pretty well-balanced, I think. To me, a film isn't really great unless the ending does a good job closing the film. Watching a film, my anticipation gradually grows as the story progresses, thus I become more engaged. Well if something interrupts it, such as a bad/unexpected ending, then I won't give the film 5 stars. Ditto did that to me. (Small spoiler coming up!) When Jee-In went to see her at the university, I loved ...
