A treasure trove of nostalgia for D&D fans of all eras!

A treasure trove of nostalgia for D&D fans of all eras! The history was interesting, but my favorite part was seeing art for some of the iconic monsters across every edition, and the features revisiting infamous adventure modules. I remember trying to figure out Dungeons and Dragons on my own with my brother, using Lego knight minifigures as miniatures, and completely failing to understand how it worked. It wasn't until a Scout camping trip much later, when someone improvised a session with no rules whatsoever that I got it and got hooked. Time to go back and play some Baldur's Gate!

  • Top critical review

Don't know how they managed to have so little info in so much space.

Almost no info on minatures at all. Flipped through it page by page over 3 hours one night and can't remember much that stuck with me. Definitely a "must have " for things like full page spreads of all the editions of some important books, but go in with limited expectations.

  • Great book for any D&D fan

Love this book. As a guy who has played and loved the game since its inception, this book captures the history in both words and illustrations that take me back and make me smile. So many great friends have come as a result of this game and the friendships we continue to share and the memories we continue to laugh about as we look back through the years - yeah, it's a great book for any D&D fan past or present.

  • Epic Fantasy art tells the story of D&D

For anyone who is a fan of Dungeons and Dragons, or arguably, epic fantasy fiction art, this book is a must. D&D brought the world of epic fantasy, and/or Swords and Sorcery, fiction into the mainstream, and the artists they employed to illustrate the product was, well, epic. This book is both an overview of the history of the game as well as a overview of the history of the game through the art and artists that illustrated it over the years. For someone who started out playing in the early 1980's the book is a nostalgia trip and an enjoyable read.

An excellent book, showcasing all the old art and mindsets from the very beginning. Lots of color photos, and lots of history. Highly recommended for anyone into D&D or rpg's.
