    Good quality adapter, lasted 13 months with 24/7 use. Replaced with same one

    Can't fault these. I use them to power 5v ip cameras over long cable runs. Stable output power. Have 12 of them in a warm server cabinet and they are still going strong. Also used to install 5v usb ports in car. Easy to mount. Would definitely recommend and buy more!

    Could be better

    I bought this unit to fit to my glider so that I could power an iPaq which displays naigational information. The unit itself appears to be well contructed, very small (importand in my application) and performs just as it should. Unfortunately it does produce significant RF noise which interferes with my radio making it unuseable. I suspect if being used in a car you may well get noise on the car radio. I think It needs some form of RF supression to make it really good.

    Accidentally run at 3.4A. Totally fried. Not what I would call "protected".

    I used it to run an LED lighting strip. This had measured as a 2.6A load at 5V initially. I put the converter on it and it worked for an hour or so before "blowing up" (failed, but no smoke or visible damage). The actual part is different to that shown in their image. It is stated that the converter is overload, over-current and over-temperature protected. Well it didn't catch fire, but it did fail. I think the load was actually 3.4A. The converter is apparently protected in the sense of not catching fire. Probably a non-resetable thermal fuse causing failure if too hot. If you do buy one, mount it to a large sheet of metal as a heatsink, because it got very hot when screwed to a wooden bench. Also use a smaller load than 3A.

    Does the job but causes RF interference in my old VW Polo.

    Easy to connect and install and powers my new dash camera without any problems. Only issue I have is that when powered due to the switching nature of how these work it is causing a lot of RF interference which is blocking my stereo from receiving a decent FM signal. I will try re-wiring this weekend to avoid going near the RF antenna cable behind my dash and add some ferrite rings to help dull the noise generated by the switching regulator. Overall it does what it is supposed to and powers my device - output appears to be closer to 2a (checked with multi-meter) than 3a but that's actually better for me.

    Unreliable design

    On the surface these look a good proposition.We've used over 100 pcs to power a 5v Pi in a control box. We've recently had some failures where the unit goes open circuit and squirts 12v down the 5v blowing up the Pi and costing me time to get an engineer out to site to replace it. This unit should be designed to fail safe.
