    Sounds better than ever!

This album was recorded in an unconventional way for the time. The then modern method of recorded was to record at 30 ips (inches per second), where as Ken Callait recorded it at 15 ips and utilized Dolby noise reduction. This meant that the source tapes were super clean and quiet. As I listened to an original, barely 110 gram record from the 70's it sounded great. When I put this 180 gram record at 45 RPM, it was like the Wizard of Oz going from black and white to color! All of the layering and vocal harmonies are so much more rich and present. Just wow!

Another great album butchered by remastering

The pressing is of fairly good quality with a few ticks and otherwise decent noise floor. If you like Steve Hoffmans idea of how music should sound you will like this. Lacking in highs. Odd "bloom" in the upper bass. With this mastering the fact it is at 45 rpm only means you have to jump up every other song to flip the record with no actual benefit. The Nautilus half-speed mastered version sounds considerably better. I wish there were an international law prohibiting remastering and certainly remixing any album or song after its initial release! In summary, if all you have is an old scratched up copy this will be an improvement otherwise I would avoid it.

  • Avoid

Very disappointed in the sound quality. Very compressed frequency range. You have to wonder what the point was to create this LP. It sounds like it was copied from a crappy CD. I compared it to my original Rumours LP bought in 1977 and , ignoring the old snaps and crackles, the 40 year old pressing sounded much better.

  • This is the Kevin Gray/Steve Hoffman master - fantastic sound

The sound of this 45RPM version of Rumors is just fantastic. Low end sound great without overpowering and the detail to the whole spectrum is just worth the price.

  • Fantastic sound!

These vinyls sound great with my stereo system. I just got a pair of $2,000.00 speakers and they are worth every penny. Love the sound of vinyls over CDs.
