Thoughtful and entertaining
I love this show. I actually saw it for the first time on You Tube last year. As I did not subscribe to cable in decades, I missed this gem of a series. I loved Tony Shaloub since he played in the show "Wings" His character Antonio, was hilarious on that show. Monk is very endearing, and although it is amusing at times, you can really see how this ingenious sleuth suffers with the challenges of OCD and his traumatic memories of his wifes death. Its a PG series ( that's my rating) so it is pretty safe for the whole family but not for very young ones as some of the opening crime scenes can be a little disturbing. I highly recommend it. ok, Here's the thing............. this show is a rare gem combining superb writing and fabulous execution by an unselfish cast. Tony Shaloub portrays a textbook case of obsessive compulsive behavior in a detective who misses nothing. He is a fun combination of Sherlock Holmes, Nero Wolfe, and Columbo. I can't decide who was the better assistant, Sharona or Natalie? Randy Disher is in a class by himself. Check out Ted Levine in any of his past successes (Fast and the Furious, American Gangster, Moby Dick). The recent loss of Stanley Kamel (Monk's psychiatrist, Dr. Charles Kroger) will leave a void that I fear will cause the show to cease. But Tony Shaloub is that kind of talent that will succeed at anything he attempts (remember the movie "Paulie"?). My favorite episode is "Panic ... ok, Here's the thing............. this show is a rare gem combining superb writing and fabulous execution by an unselfish cast. You MUST SEE IT for yourself. I highly recommend MONK just for the fun of it. "It's a gift, .....and a curse". Thank you, Tony Shaloub, for the best show on TV.

Always fun
Our family loves the Monk series. We do not get television reception because there's too much naughty on t.v. these days and we have a house full of teenagers. So we buy series of appropriate television shows and this is definitely one of them. The main actor does an excellent job. This would be an easy character to "overplay" but he does it just right. We love Stuttlemeyer and Disher too. Great characters and fun plots. Sure, sometimes the solving of the crimes is unrealistic but we watch these to be entertained and they do the job.Our family loves the Monk series. Waiting for the Greatness....
I'm a HUGE Monk Fan, I have all four seasons on DVD and will be adding this one when it somes on the market and it's sent to me. Each season, Monk is a series that won't disappoint. The characters are endearing and they bring Monk to life. As a matter of fact, some of the characters remind me of some of my friends, well not as far out as the characters. The cast does a great job bringing the characters to life and that's the joy of the show.
