The Super Hero Pioneer Movie - Still Great
After George Reeves, this is the Superman for me. I remember when this movie first ran. It was the pioneer of the big budget, super hero blockbusters. Today there's a glut of that thanks to Marvel, and now, I'm not a fan of most of them because the old, comic book feel is gone. Superman - The Movie still stands out.

Superman: The Movie Blu-ray
this Blu-ray did a decent job of touching up on the clarity of the original. there were at times some scenes that still looked like DVD quality but for the most part, the Blu-ray experience is about more than 85-90% good and about 10-15% that should have been done better. there were also deleted scenes and extra scenes that were inserted in the movie. i've seen several versions of Superman so i know what was edited and what was added. for example in the Blu-ray version, when Clark was in high school, Lana asked him to go over to Mary Ellen's to play some records he said sure; but in another version that i saw, he kind of ponders the thought and said he didn't know, he still had a lot to clean up and it made Lana kind of feeel like he was rejecting her but noticing this, ... this Blu-ray did a decent job of touching up on the clarity of the original. there were at times some scenes that still looked like DVD quality but for the most part, the Blu-ray experience is about more than 85-90% good and about 10-15% that should have been done better. there were also deleted scenes and extra scenes that were inserted in the movie. i've seen several versions of Superman so i know what was edited and what was added. for example in the Blu-ray version, when Clark was in high school, Lana asked him to go over to Mary Ellen's to play some records he said sure; but in another version that i saw, he kind of ponders the thought and said he didn't know, he still had a lot to clean up and it made Lana kind of feeel like he was rejecting her but noticing this, he said sure! also, there was the part where Superman rescues the cat from the tree and as he gives it to the little girl and she explains that the cat was being naughty and Superman asks what the cat's name was and they have a small conversation before he takes off. but in the Blu-ray version, Superman just gives that cat to the girl and says "Well, see ya!" i wish they could have had the extended version even though they did add a few new scenes to the movie. i still liked the other versions that i saw especially when Larry Hagman (from Dallas and I Dream of Jeannie) was playing a commander and he tried giving CBR to Ms. Teshmachuer and she was like "Whooh! Lay off the onions!". i liked the movie ever since i was a kid so i bought it, but it still leaves a little more to be desired especially with the storage capacity and power of Blu-ray. overall, a good but not great effort!

A Superhero Movie Classic...on Beautiful Blu-Ray!
I've always been a fan of this movie since seeing it for the first time, and now seeing it on blu-ray makes the experience even better. This movie set the standard for superhero movies of the last thirty years in telling the story of the character, in this instance from birth to his ascension to "The Man of Steel". The story telling in this movie is fantastic as it starts from the very beginning of Superman's existence. It shows the loss of his planet, him being sent to Earth, being raised by the Kents and eventually finding his destiny on his new planet. The acting is superb. Marlon Brando as Jor-El has brief screen time but helps set the foundation for the movie. Gene Hackman is great as Lex Luthor and Ned Beatty is golden as his bumbling sidekick Otis. ... Margot Kidder shines as Lois Lane and helped define, in my opinion, the strong female protagonist to go opposite of our hero. Granted she gets herself in more bad situations in this movie than most of us do in our lives, but she is a headstrong female who doesn't like to take second place to anyone. The real star of this movie though is Christopher Reeve as his performance as Clark Kent/Superman is spot on. It has always been joked about how the only difference between the two is the glasses, but the way Reeve plays the two characters has you firmly believing that they are two different individuals. It was a role that defined his career, and rightfully so. The only drawback to being on blu-ray is that you can see the difference in special effects technology between now and the late 70's. Some of the scenes do look badly edited under high definition, but this shouldn't deter you if you are a fan of the movie. I might also complain about the lack of screen time for Gene Hackman as he played the Lex Luthor character so well that it left you wanting more. A few more extra features would of been nice also, since this is a blu-ray disc and that is one of the great appeals over dvd. In closing, I would highly suggest picking this up on blu-ray if you are either a fan of the movie or if you have never seen it and want to see a great superhero flick. You could say this is the one that started it all and I believe is still the measuring stick for subsequent comic book based movies.

The best superman film ever made.
The best superman movie ever made. It captures the spirit of the character perfectly. Christopher reeve is terrific in the role . Film looks great on bluray.

As a kid, I could remember scraping up every dime I had to whatch this movie over 7 times in theatres. I guess I wanted to see Superman as a real character instead of a cartoon character back then. When Superman the movie came out on VHS tape, I was always too late or too poor to buy it, the video stores didn't really sell them, (unless you say you lost it, or the sun melted it) they rented them for what felt like forever before they would sell it as used. Then I came across the DVD years later, I purchased it emediately and watched it a few times from the comforts of my home. I love the story of a super hero fighting against all evils of the earth, also, Superman did it all, including turning back time! Let's face it, Superman is the best Superhero we have. I was hooked, I am now purchasing Blu-Ray form now on. The clarity, sharpness, and sound quality is imeasurable when compared to basic DVD's. Some Blu-Ray's come with entirely different movie endings, and also have much more information stored on them.
