Step Back Into Fine Big Band Singing
Not every modern singer could pull this off- singing the famous 1920s-1940s tunes, but with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Linda Ronstadt pays beautiful homage to the great composers of that age. Her voice can sing so many genres, that this may not surprise those who know her artistry well. Reminisce or get introduced to some romantic big band tunes. Fully recommended.

Linda's peers have been trying to revive the the American Standard for years without any success. The likes of Carly Simon, Toni Tenille and others had one thing in common--they used modern arrangements to classic songs and they just did not mesh. Linda wisely enlisted Nelson Riddle, a master in this field for decades, and the results was a breakthrough. Rosemary Clooney commented that if it wasn't for Linda, a new generation of people would never have been exposed to this music. Linda's record company balked and old her it would ruin her career, this release sold 5 million copies. They shut up and let her do two more successful sequels. Never argue with an artist with a vision, especially one the this enormous talent. This relatively short 9 track set is masterful but ... Without it, I would have never known some of this wonderful music of yesteryear by the great songwriters of the century.

This album is loaded with the sounds of the melodious voice of Linda Rondstadt (some of her better work) and the awesome Nelson Riddle Orchestra. The combination of these two gifted artists is like having your favorite icecream atop grandma's peach cobbler. This album is great for that special evening in front of the fireplace with your favorite bottle of champagne and maybe even your favorite person. My father used to play this CD when I was a little girl and I grew to love it then. When I became an adult, I began to seek out this album on CD (then it was LP). I lost the CD(found on ebay) it after a tragic event and began to search for it again. It is really a great CD! This CD brings back many pleasant, fond and exciting memories of days gone by. Hearing her voice today still indicates she understands the beauty of her voice. I just wish she would have made more recordings with Nelson Riddles and his orchestra which (in my OLD opinion) let the world know she had much more than just a lot of volume. Her interpretation of the old ballads were as good or better than some of the original singers who made the songs great.This CD brings back many pleasant, fond and exciting memories of days gone by. Hearing her voice today still indicates she understands the beauty of her voice. I just wish she would have made more recordings with Nelson Riddles and his orchestra which (in my OLD opinion) let the world know she had much more than just a lot of volume.
