This is a tribute to those who created, built, and operated the Spitfire during WW2. It presents moving stories of young pilots who failed to return, and, for the first time, publication of the full story of how Douglas Bader was actually the victim of 'Friendly Fire' when shot down and captured in 1941 (this research forms the basis of the 2 hour C4 documentary The Search for Bader's Spitfire being broadcast in Sept 06 (the author appears on the programme and this book is mentioned). It also states the case for Spitfire designer RJ Mitchell to be posthumously honoured, and includes numerous unpublished photographs.
