This is a great book to show the freedoms we take for granted in the US. It also shows what could be if we let power go to those who don't have the best interest of the country in mind, but would rather serve only themselves and their own power. While soviet Russia has many vast differences, this book shows the tactics used by a totalitarian government to keep their people in check, even when those people are suffering great problems.
This book gives details on Viktor Belenko's defection to the west. He is the most famous of pilots defecting to the west because he flew in a Mig 25. It was a prize back then when Mig's were the best that the Soviets had. I had bought other John Barron books in the past and I liked them all. I selected Barron for Cold War books because he had a specialty in Soviet Studies in his degree. The first book that I read from Barron is KGB Today: The Hidden Hand which I first heard in the mid 80's
