Mistakenly thought I was getting 2x 20cm M-to-M and 2x 20cm F-to-M RIBBON CABLES as pictured... Instead I received 2 pairs of 20cm wire! I told the seller they need to improve the title and photograph of their advert to remove ambiguity. I don't think they realised how vague their advert is. The seller said his title was "obvious". Seller doesn't understand what 'obvious' or 'unambiguous' mean. Avoid this seller, unless you are willing to deal with guessing what they mean instead of knowing.

Some Pros and Cons, but I like them!

These things are considerably bigger than you probably expect, the LEDs themselves are 8mm - in a 12mm housing ...The lens is cloudy so the light is nicely diffused ...The colours are quite pastel in nature, rather than the usual harsh LED light ...There are two issues you need to address: 1) the lights come on at full brightness when connected, NOT black - so you may need to consider current draw on power-up (and don't be looking at them when you add power - or you will be seeing spots for a while) ...And 2) There is considerable voltage drop at about 40 LEDs, so you will need to run 5V in to BOTH ends of the chain to ensure consistent colours

  • Well built addressable light strip.

Easy to drive form a range of micro-controllers, including the ESP32. May need level shifting to work with 3.3V micro-controllers. Construction seems robust.

  • WS2811 pixels - AWFUL QUALITY - AVOID

Absolutely awful quality - avoid at all cost. I purchased 2500 individual nodes (50 x 50 strings). Almost all individual nodes worked fine when first powered up and tested on the bench. Built display using all nodes and powered up. Within minutes of first continued use a few started to fail - normally the blue led failed, sometimes the green led would fail (less often), rarely did the red led fail. Most continued to pass data even after a colour failed to light, although a few did fail to onward transmit data. Replaced failed nodes and did a 5 hour burn-in test of all LEDs cycling through ramps on-off of red, green blue, white at 10% brightness. This should not have stressed them too much as it was such a low power level and gentle ramp. At the end of 5 hours, over 300 have one or ...

  • Good fun.

Hook up to an Arduino, add the FastLed library and play! Not sure what I'm going to do with mine, I've ordered some more to link together so they may well end up on the christmas tree. They seem well made, if anything too well made - the wire is fairly thick and so not as flexible as you may like. But depending on your use that might be a good thing. You could cut them up and use them individually. The chips are separate to the lights so in theory you could remove the pcb and use it to drive a different LED, that way you get 50 controllers for pennies each. (I haven't tried this, so it may not be possible to remove the pcb from the housing without damaging it.)

  • Perfect LED for projects

WS2811 LEDs allow for highly controllable individual colours. They work off a 5V supply (although the amp requirement can rack up - 3amps per 50 @ 100% brightness and full white), and are fairly robust. They can be simply cut as required too. Expect the odd single non-working LED every so often - I just bought 25 sets of 50 and two of these sets had a dodgy connection which requires removal of the affected LED from the string and then reconnecting.
