Product Information

Elizabeth: The Golden Age is a sumptuous historical epic which sees Cate Blanchett return to the role which brought her to the attention of the world. Set 15 years after the events depicted in Elizabeth, Elizabeth: The Golden Age tells the thrilling tale of an era - the story of one woman's crusade to control love, crush enemies and secure her position as a beloved icon of the western world. As Elizabeth's cousin Mary Stuart conspires with Philip of Spain to topple the throne, Francis Walsingham - Elizabeth's trusty advisor, works tirelessly to protect her from the many plots and conspiracies against her. Preparing to go to war to defend her empire, Elizabeth struggles to balance royal duties with an unexpected vulnerability in her attraction to the dashing Sir Walter Raleigh, a notorious privateer who has offered his services to the Queen. Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett is reunited with her director from Elizabeth, Shekhar Kapur, as well as returning cast member, Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush. Joining the cast are Academy Award nominee Clive Owen, Academy Award nominee Samantha Morton and Australian Film Institute winner Abbie Cornish.

  • A must for any history student

Whilst some historical events are brief, this is an insight of one of the greatest and respected queens of England. She survived about 16 attempts on her life, stuck to her guns under pressure to marry, Rallied her troops before the battle with the Spanish armada. Her love life is guesswork as there is no actual evidence that she had lovers, but there is no evidence she did not, so the movie took some liberties with that. Her relationship with Walsingham was a very mentor like but she did make her own decisions as well. Unfortunately there is no mention of William Cecil, who actually hired Walsingham and started the spy network which set a model for future espionage activities. The cast is stunning with Cate proving her worth as a top class actress.
