Invaluable to a serious Bible student.
I heard this translation of the Bible was the closest English translation there is, to the original Hebrew and Greek texts. I've just started studying it but can already see it will answer a lot of my questions. I'm VERY pleased with this book! It was used but looked brand new, in perfect condition, at a great price.

Has a good list of OT scriptures found in the NT.
This is a Messianic Bible. Some names and words have been substituted for a counterpart in the Hebrew language. Hence Jesus appears as Yeshua, and Adonai for the name of the father. Since I know that the title Adonai was added into the Masoretic Text in place of YHWH for Yahweh this is a disapointment. The names of the books are listed in both Hebrew and and English which is quite helpful. The greatest aspect of this version of the scriptures is that the OT scriptures (i.e.-Tanach) in the NT(i.e.-Brit Chadasha) are in bold ink with a reference of where in the OT it came from at tge bottom of the page. Once in a while it does not seem match up when you read the OT reference that is provided, however they also have another list for a second chance to find the right scripture to match it to. ... This Second Chance List is called "Index of Tanakh Passages Cited in the B'rit Hadashah". This is important because about 80% of the NT is actually OT scriptures or commentary about it. Sometimes when you comepare an OT quote or cut-and-paste found in the NT with the OT scriptures it came from, the definitions don't agree because meanings tend to get lost or damaged when they pass from Hebrew into Greek. This has the potential to change many doctrines of entire denominations if clearly understood.

A pleasure to read. Lot of insight into the actual text. The modern translations into English changed some of the meanings or just did not make sense. This clarifies what was actually meant and why or the reasons for the misinterpretations. Example: Right eye pluck it out. Was actually Evil Eye which meant stingy or greedy. But during the middle ages the evil eye meant magic and they did not want to represent that. That is why the interpretation did not make sense. Great reading if you want to know the truth or bible study. It also show the real name and pronunciation of Christ and the disciples at that time. It is a shame they didn't do a better job when the bible was translated to English. The Jewish bible only enhances with the true meaning the word of God and pronunciation at the ... This is NOT a Jewish Bible, but a Christian Bible that uses Hebrew terms. There is nothing "complete" or Jewish about violating the two times in the Tanakh that it is commanded not to add to or take away from the eternal covenant of Torah. Judaism does not have a "New Testament". Judaism does not have an "Old Testament". Judaism has only an eternal testament. There is a REAL and HONESTLY titled "Complete Jewish Bible" in English for anyone who is sincere in wanting to read or purchase a Complete Jewish Bible. It is put out by Judaica Press. I am astonished that any legitimate publisher would have permitted this fraudulently titled name to be published. Judaism and Christianity are mutually exclusive religions. The Christian Bible is ... This is NOT a Jewish Bible, but a Christian Bible that uses Hebrew terms. The Christian Bible is their Old Testament ( an adaptation and alteration of the Tanakh ( the Torah, Nevim and Ketuvim ) and their "New Testament". The Christian Bible's alteration of the Tanakh is done with specific tweaks in order to fit into the replacement theology and redefinitions of Hebrew terms and doctrine. Should we have English translations of the Quran that take Arabic phrases and use Christian terms in redefined ways antithetical to the doctrine of Islam, and attach it to books of the New Testament now be published as the Complete Christian Bible? This is no different in what this book does with its title and claims. There are a number of Yiddish words scattered throughout the book inappropriately named the Complete Jewish Bible. Yiddish was not in the Tanakh and the New Testament books were written in Koine Greek. To take the Greek words and arbitrarily assign Hebrew and Yiddish words to them to promote protestant evangelical Christian doctrine is not promoting the understanding of either early Christianity or Biblical Judaism. Jews did not speak Yiddish during the time of the writing of the Hebrew Bible. The use of Yiddish in a Christian Bible is only to try to give a false sense of Jewishness. Look at the following foolish examples Luke 10:4 Don't carry a money-belt or a pack, and don't stop to shmoose with people on the road. Luke 18:5 but because this widow is such a nudnik, I will see to it that she gets justice -- otherwise, she'll keep coming and pestering me till she wears me out!'" Gal 2:15 We are Jews by birth, not so-called 'Goyishe sinners' Jews of first Century Judea wouldn't have a clue what the Yiddish words Goyishe, nudnik or schmoose meant. He also takes certain Greek words from the New Testament and translates them into Hebrew words or English words( *sometimes with different meaning from the Hebrew ) depending on what particular aspect of Christian dogma he wishes to support. In some passages of the book of Romans he takes the Greek word nomos and translates the Greek word for law into the Hebrew word Torah. Torah most often refers to the five books of Moses and contains the law, but the word Torah more appropriately translates into the English word Teaching. In other passages he translates the same word nomos to "legalism". But when he refers to the passage from Paul he uses the word LAW, not Torah. Note how differently the word nomos translated as Torah (as he did in chapter five of Romans ) would have made Paul's statement in chapter six read "“…for ye are not under the Torah, but under grace”(Romans 6:14). Their claim that they are Torah observant falls short when you read the words of Paul as his use of nomos to mean Torah would imply.

On the CJB
Dr. David Stern spent much of his life in preparing and writting this Bible. I believe it is one of the better versions available. I have used KJV, NKJV, NIV, NLT, Recovery version, NASB, ASV, and others; the CJB is my favorite. Most other translations can be taken out of context as anti-Semitic, but this wipes out any anti-Semitism. It has increased my knowledge of the Hebrew and Yiddish languages. It gives a great understanding of the orginal Hebrew and Greek scriptures and reads in modern English. After years of reading and studing this version I can say it captures the orginal "essence" of the manuscripts.Dr. David Stern spent much of his life in preparing and writting this Bible.
