This is a large lens albeit made for 6x7 format, Rather heavy for 35mm users. I use it with Sony A7r2, with an adapter., in aperture priority mode or manual mode only. However the main attraction is soft focus capability. You should have three dics which control the degree of softness. You unscrew front part of the lens and drop the chosen disc. Also the aperture has to be between 5.6 and 4 , otherwise the discs are not effective.( you need to use the peripheral part of the lens). Made for studio use.

Great MF lens for portraits and product photography, F4 renders soft backgrounds and stopped down to the lens is sharp from centre to edge. This lens is about the same as an 80 in 35mm photography or a 60 in aps-c digital. The bokeh this lens produces is simply amazing, I would recommend this + extension tubes or bellows over the 80 f4 macro. Like all mamiya lenses it makes the most sense to get the latest version, C is the earliest, so I would recommend this incarnation if you see it at a great price. The N version is the modern version and would be preferable. The two exceptions to this are if you shoot primarily black and white film, in which case the SC version while produce better shadows, and if you shoot AF or digital (via digital back) in which case you'll probably want an af version. Still this is a bargain for the price.Read full review
