About this product

Product Information

Now the subject of the hit documentary Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood , praised by Vanity Fair as "full of revelations" and Entertainment Weekly as "deliciously salacious," Full Service is the remarkable true story of Scotty Bowers, the "gentleman hustler," during the heyday of classic Hollywood. Newly discharged from the Marines after World War II, Bowers arrived in Hollywood in 1946. Young, charismatic, and strikingly handsome, he quickly caught the eye of many of the town's stars and starlets. He began sleeping with some himself, and connecting others with his coterie of young, attractive, and sexually free-spirited friends. His own lovers included Edith Piaf, Spencer Tracy, Vivien Leigh, Cary Grant, and the abdicated King of England Edward VIII, and he arranged tricks or otherwise crossed paths with Tennessee Williams, Charles Laughton, Vincent Price, Katharine Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, Errol Flynn, Gloria Swanson, Noël Coward, Mae West, James Dean, Rock Hudson and J. Edgar Hoover, to name but a few. Full Service is not only a fascinating chronicle of Hollywood's sexual underground, but also exposes the hypocrisy of the major studios, who used actors to propagate a myth of a conformist, sexually innocent America knowing full well that their stars' personal lives differed dramatically from this family-friendly mold. As revelation-filled as Hollywood Babylon , Full Service provides a lost chapter in the history of the sexual revolution and is a testament to a man who provided sex, support, and affection to countless people.

The ordering process was easy and fast and the price was good. I did not have to wait long for delivery; the book was well packaged and arrived in excellent condition. It was listed on the website as "very good" but it actually looked brand new. All in all, very pleased with the entire experience and will definitely use ebay again.

Memories and healing within ones self!

It was very exciting to read about back in the day of Hollywood on how they all had to keep deep dark secrets and passion of types and kinds! It tells you how Scotty can be a very close and just act like a ordinary person at the same time in this era of history.. What He shared about his life, I can totally relate too and all the hush hush secretes.. Made me feel that I was not alone in this other world for at times I felt I was.. I wish that I could be brave as Scotty, unfortunate mine will have to go with me to another life time... Thanks JD (James Dean for real)

You Can't Libel A Dead Person - But You Can Sure Try

As they say, "You can't libel a dead person". This book has name dropping by a 90 year old man in spades. Did Scotty Bowers live among the golden Hollywood crowd in the 40's, 50's and beyond - sure - as a bartender, trick scheduler and gas station pumper. The more I read it appeared that Scotty may have known a great number of stars, had various forms of sex with many but it all seemed a bit too much. An interesting read when taken with a large grain of salt. Everyone mentioned is long dead. If you buy into his tale, you may have your thoughts on Hollywood romances such as Hepburn and Tracy shaken to the core. One obvious clue that he may have embellished the circumstances is that all the photos are stock footage - not a personal photo or note to be seen from any of his "great and good ...

  • Interesting reveals about old Hollywood stars

Well written with a kind, non judgmental approach, telling it as it was. Certainly reveals much about inner workings of Hollywood and the hidden sex lives of many early Hollywood stars. Mr. Bowers is always kind and sympathetic when revealing information he knew first hand about famous actors and actresses, directors and producers.

  • Fascinating Account

Fascinating account of authors self centered life. I do find some parts a little hard to believe, but overall a very interesting read of himself and the celebrities he has encountered throughout his life.

  • Bold and Exciting to read

Very Bold and Exciting read, it is very graphic many many times so it is not for the faint of heart...Do not know if all he says at his age is true, but it sure changed the way I think about a lot of the early age movie stars
