About this product

Product Information

Borrowing shooting elements from Space Harrier and emulating the overall look of F-Zero, HyperZone is a colorful outer space shooter in which players pilot five different ships (varying in speed, power, and weapons) down futuristic "highways," blasting away at hostile aliens while avoiding fireballs and space junk. Straying off the road into areas of radiation zaps the ship's energy, but cruising over panels in the road restores power and repairs ship damage. The viewpoint is from behind the ship, and players can maneuver up, down, right, and left, but the course never veers from its stubbornly straight pathway, making for some mind-numbingly repetitive shooting action. The sound effects are serviceable at best, but the music is fast and far out, and the landscaping is otherworldly. Hyper gamers will appreciate all the shooting, but the game is too repetitious and one-dimensional to put players "in the zone."

  • Hyper Shooting Game in Pseudo 3-D for the SuperNES

An early space shooter for the Super Nintendo. Rather than your standard side-scrolling game, here you race facing forward in third-person perspective. You fly inside a limited space at hyper speed in a straight road Enemies fly towards you and shoot at you. You may evade them by moving side to side and up and down. At some levels your ship will be upgraded with a stronger weapon. The best part is the music. Each area has a different and interesting score. The bad part are the pseudo 3-D graphics. Flying up and down is not very convincing for me. I feel I should be able to fly higher to the ceiling. This is a bigger problem in Area 6: Neo Megalopolis where it is not clear to me where in space the laser barriers are in order to fly over them or below them. Use your best guess to ...
