About this product

Product Information

While hiding from a Japanese military offensive on a desolate Pacific island, a Marine sergeant (Mitchum) and his only fellow survivor, an Irish Roman Catholic novitiate on a humanitarian mission (Kerr), search for food, engage in philosophical sparring, avoid sexual tension, and struggle to survive. Huston again pairs hardened hero with an indomitable woman (think African Queen) and lets the sparks fly. Academy Award Nominations: Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actress: Deborah Kerr.

    Amazing feature with 2 superstars only!

    This is a wonderful film with two super actors, male and female. It is amazing how you can build an almost 2 hours feature with only 2 characters, and yet there isn't a dull moment. Exciting and the moral conflict is very well managed. Not to be missed, Highly recommended.

    Not just a war movie. Get out the hankie.

    This was my favorite actor's (Yul Brynner) favorite movie. I can see why. If you don't have tears at the end and want to follow what could have happened next--you're not breathing. This is acting at it's subtle and effective best.

    A different outlook on situations of war
