Reviews
When a series is titled African-American Icons, many parents, teachers, and librarians might hope it is filled with volumes about doctors, lawyers, teachers, or scientists. This one is not. Instead, each book is devoted to an entertainer (i.e., Beyonce, Jay-Z, Sean Combs, Chris Rock, Tyler Perry, and Jennifer Hudson). Like celebrities who came before them, most of these performers report a moment during childhood when a particular talent surfaced and surprised family members, whether it was a comedic flare for describing ordinary events (Chris Rock) or being one of the youngest members in a choir given a solo (Jennifer Hudson). Each icon used natural talent, hard work, and big breaks to climb to the top. The books do not focus solely on triumphs; they are also filled with details about trials, including Jennifer Hudson's family tragedy and Sean Combs' close contact with the law.

Synopsis
His voice blaring in the recording, Sean "Diddy" Combs says, "We won't stop." He repeats the motto in many of his famous songs, three words that Diddy lives by. When it comes to his rise to superstardom in hip-hop and his pursuit of dominance in the entertainment industry, Sean Combs has never stopped. The Harlem-born music mogul has achieved success as a producer, rapper, and entrepreneur, including the massive success of his Sean John clothing line. Author Jen Jones explores the meteoric rise of this entertainment icon.

- v***v (2063)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseAlthough this book was not as described, with no picture of it in the listing, the seller communicated well and quickly gave me a full refund while letting me keep it. The minimal packaging left the book a bit vulnerable (typical for ThriftBooks), but it did arrive safely and timely. As usual, it’s hit or miss with this seller, but often times you can get great values, and their customer service is always very good. Many other sellers with millions of transactions don’t even communicate.
- 2***j (113)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseI've ordered several items from this vendor now and they've always been what they were advertised as. This was no exception. Both discs were in great shape as well as their jewel cases. Delivery is good, packaging is simple but effective for what you're paying and I haven't had any get damaged. Will keep buying from this vendor because of the results so far and good prices, too.
