  • Cult favorite -- deservedly so

This engaging and entertaining theatrical dromedy has become a cult favorite -- hence the high collector's price. It speaks highly of Canadian television, with its sophisticated script, well-drawn characters, and surprising events. Paul Gross is perfect as the director of a Shakespeare company (based loosely on Stratford), who is trying to overcome past demons in terms of former loves and his mental breakdown on stage. He is surrounded by great characters: the self-serving clueless company manager (Mark McKinney), the leading lady (his former love), the British seniors -- a gay couple who are old hands in the theater and who sing the delightful opening and closing songs, written especially for this production, in true Music Hall fashion. Great writing and nice production design. Try to find a copy that isn't out-of-this-world expensive. I did.
