These are getting to be a vintage piece of audio gear being replaced with digitally based sound processing, but for the user with few channel requirements and desires simplicity amid quality, the DBX Limiter/Gates are hard to beat.
I love the 166"A" version even though it is an older model than the slightly more sophisticated 166"XL", there are two features I enjoy over the newer version:
1. Less operator training needed over a computer based package.
2. Made in the USA quality over the Chinese produced XL model.
While the buttons do not light up on the "A" model, that is a minor inconvenience
If your audio requirements are not overly sophisticated and have the room to rack mount these, they are clearly the way to go if choosing among the comparable equipment.
