I for the most part depend on my amplifiers natural high gain distortion, unfortunately this requires more volume than most small venues or rehearsal spaces allow. With the Jackhammer and using a small solid state combo I can about duplicate the tones of my Marshall JCM 900 and 2000 DSL50 to a very accurate degree. The trick is to know how to set your EQ and the choice of your selection of distortion or overdrive. I bought this pedal for the purpose of tone enhancement at low volumes. I can't really compare it with others as this is the only one I use. I have tried other products to do this exact function but by far the Marshall had the best achievable tone. I can turn a vintage 25 watt Rickenbacher into a roaring beast.
Awesome pedal for the Marshall OD tone pair it with a good tube amp and you got a good tone. pedal is tuff and and has nice range of options to shape OD sound. is this better than a actual marshall amp..of course not but it IMHO delivers what it was designed 4 a pedal to give you marshall tones from your amp. metal case solid on/off switch and tone knobs r solid. If u can get this pedal under 75 bucks I say grab it. dont take my word chk some videos out and see what u think. BTW this pedal has a lil more gain than its brother the guv'nor
I bought this effects pedal with the intention of reselling it. But, it sound amazing. The JH-1 sounds greats through the clean channel of just about any solid state amp and brings that Marshall sound. If you think that's cool, then you should hear it through a Marshall tube amp at full throttle. It sings all day, and that with a Strat. The only problem that I had is when it's set to Distortion (rather than Overdrive) and the gain is halfway up or higher, it's a little noisy until you start playing (I tried it both ways: between guitar and amp as well as through my Effects Loop). It was a little hummy with both setups. The bypass, however was excellent; clean and transparent (no button pops). In comparison with similar effects, I agree with many others who are familiar with this pedal, that it is widely underated, and is, in fact, one of the best pedals Marshall ever built, much less effects from other manufacturers. If you're looking for super crunchy Overdrive or to use the Distortion setting to burn a whole through everybody in the front row, this is your pedal (well, maybe not THIS one since I'm thinking of keeping it).Read full review
I grabbed a second one of these pedals via eBay because they don't make them anymore and I love the overdrive and parametric mid, but I noticed that the second one was made in China, whereas the 1st was made in India. I tried to be completely objective when comparing the two pedals, but still the one made in China didn't have as much gain and didn't saturate as well, making the overall sound a little thinner. This could also just be a q.c. issue where I was lucky to get a good one the 1st time.
Blues / hard rockers will enjoy this overdrive & distortion selections, getting used to adjustments & sounds looking for. Good real estate on the pedal board. Classic sounds. Have to EQ pedal help on tone looking for musically taste. Enjoy...
