This can be thought of as an option to the Les Paul for people who don't like the feel and ergonomics of a LP but love the sound they make. I've owned four LPs in my 45+ years but always end up selling them because they just weren't comfortable for me to play. The things I don't like about the LP are remedied with this guitar. It is a double cutaway instead of the single cutaway of the LP, allowing for far greater upper fretboard access. The controls more logical to me as they are all in one location on the lower bout instead of the pickup selector switch being segregated to the upper bout. The weight is still very much like a LP, meaning it's going to sustain very well. The one thing could I wish it had is a body cutout for comfort, but that would remove some of the weight and sustain. When I want light weight, I play my SG. The neck is the classic early 60s c shape. very comfortable in my hand. Too, the previous owner installed DiMarzio D Activators. This gives the guitar the capability of going into metal territory comfortably. Rolling off the tone a bit takes it back into classic LP territory. I play my SG most often because it does most things very well, but when I need the extra sustain and tonal oomph, I pull out this and let the shred begin. I've owned one of these previously with Duncan 59s. It got the classic LP sound and I really loved it. I traded it and some other gear for a PRS Custom 24. I really think the Hamer with your preferred modifications is the better choice because you aren't carrying around a $3400 guitar. Nothing like damaging or losing an expensive item like that to ruin your day. These are only available on the used market now, because FMIC shut down Hamer a few years ago. I highly recommend, if this type of instrument floats your boat.Read full review

One of the best value guitars I own, I own two of these Korea made 1990's Hamers. They both exceptional build quality. This is one of the best sounding and playing large hollow body guitars that I have played. I have played expensive Gibson's and this sounds and plays as good as most Gibsons. I would recommend this guitar for the money to anyone looking for a JAZZ Archtop guitar.
