I'm a Unix Systems Engineer for a living and one thing I require is the ability to get console on every system I support. Recently I got started with Raspberry Pi and wanted a different solution than to have to plug in a keyboard and HDMI monitor every time I need to start one up. I've used Avocent IP-KVM at work for many years and I find them useful and reliable so when I saw these I picked one up thinking they'd be just the ticket for what I'm looking for and I'm sure glad I did. It does exactly what I want it to do. There are some caveats you should know: 1) To do basic setup you'll need a serial console cable (X096H U137H/540-604-501), they're available on eBay. 2) This is no longer supported by the vendor, but you can download the most recent version of the firmware (3/2016). 3) You'll need to use an old version of Java to make this work, I use Java 6. 4) For low power devices such as the Raspberry Pi, you'll need DSRIQ-USB dongles..Read full review
