Plenty of power to drive my seven Polk Audio RTi series speakers. Atmos adds immersion to the few Atmos blu-rays I have. The surround processing does a decent job of adding height sound to non Atmos content. I really like the screensaver function when listening to music on Pandora or the USB drive because I have it hooked up to an OLED TV that can have image retention. For some reason Onkyo chose to put the USB slot on the back of this unit which makes it a pain to swap out the drive. The auto calibration on my unit was way off with way, way too much bass and the crossover frequencies for my front RTi8 tower speakers was set way too high. I think this unit was a good buy despite having to manually calibrate. Sounds much better with a lot more punch than my old Yamaha RX-V567 but not as much punch and detail as my Yamaha Aventage RX-A840.Read full review

I was amazed at how much our 4K TV picture improved. The reason for the 4 stars is related to the difficulty in using the remote. We are still not able to get the remote to turn the TV on and off. We have been able to use it for our satellite box and our blue ray player. There was no instant setup wizard like the manual stated. We have researched both Onkyo and Sony for help with this to no avail. I would give the receiver 5 stars in performance and 1 star on the remote and it's instructions in the manual. The receiver is not very esthetically pleasing but I don't let that be much of a concern. However a sleeker look like Sony presents would be nice instead of the big and boxy look. All in all there are a lot of features for the price point on the Onkyo TX-NR 646.

I purchased my first Onkyo home receiver back in 2003, and absolutely loved it. It still works perfectly to this day; however, I needed to update my technology since my older Onkyo did not have HDMI inputs/outputs. The TX-NR646 is loaded with the most current technology, so I imagine that it will suit my needs for the next 10+ years. Once the receiver is set up, it is easy to use (initial setup can be a bit of a pain, depending upon your components and speaker setup). The TX-NR646 is 4k ready, and is capable of handling the most current surround sound technology. Additionally, it has several internet music options built in. I have SiriusXM in my car and on my phone, and this receiver allows me to login and play my SiriusXm account through the receiver without having to pay for another registered unit. Bottom line...this receiver is a whole lot of bang for the buck.Read full review

I debated for awhile between two different receivers, and I can say at the end I made the right choice! This receiver packs a serious punch when it comes to sound and with all the added features, such as Dolby Atmos and DTS-X, it turned my simple surround sound speakers into something amazing. One top of the easy set-up and great sound is the simple feature of the bypass! I love the fact I can have my TV and cable box connected to the receiver but still be able to watch TV without if being on and coming from the TV speakers. Makes life easy for my wife and kids. But if you are looking for a solid, strong, and superior unit all for a great price, look no more than this!

The onkyo tx-nr646 is a versatile a/v receiver. I love the pass through feature that allows you to watch satellite or blu ray w/o turning it on. The powered zone 2 can use analog or digital sources. The sound quality is excellent and it truly surrounds you.
