    This collection may be said to be one of several iterations of Miller's own concept of musical entertainment for the services in the war. This collection centers on that point in late 1943 - early '44 when the band was an exceedingly polished and accomplished aggregation, broadcasting several times a week in support of warbond and recruiting efforts. Due to the restrictions of broadcasting ("air") time and Miller's expressed desire to give the GI a ";..hunk of home..." these are rather formalized, even stilted, renditions. Miller's own leadership style also may have contributed to the feeling of stiffness. Later, after locating to the UK and the Continent, Miller himself seeped to loosen up in his approaches (particularly after his successes vis a vis the bureaucracy of the BBC re- ...
